  1. I'm looking for a tool which will allow me to "stamp" in a parallel channel.  I know I'm not explaining this very well, but I want to put veins on leaves, so the end result would be a small rounded line with a "groove" cut along both sides - but small.  Any ideas?

  2. Thanks for the comments.  The legs are filled with misc. bolts and screws (for weight), the tabs will not cause leg (shin) injury and more than everything else in the shop that sticks out, and the legs won't be bolted down because 1)  I'm not sure exactly where in the shop I want the striking anvil, and 2) the shop has a new concrete floor and I'm not about to poke holes in it.  The hole in the anvil came from the fellow who supplied it (actually 2 plates, welded together) and I can't remember his name.  I will keep trying to remember same and pass it along.

  3. O.K., you've got me.  Yes, I could use my coal forge, but I don't want to.  Yes, I could use my two-burner gas forge, but I don't want to.  Or, I could use a three-burner gas forge.  Why?  Seems like when I watch knife and sword makers, they are being made on three-burner forges.  Wasting heat?  I can turn off one or two of the burners - making big into small.  But, I can't make small into big.  I'll ask again.  Recommendations on three-burner forges?

  4. Have just mounted a 120 mm mortar can (with base, 2" X 2" X 3"), but it's in bad need of a cover to hide it (says my wife).  Suggestions?  Should be no more than 3' 6" tall, at least 2' X 2' square with a removable lid (or one that swings back and down to avoid fire).  I'm thinking about a large wooden garden storage box or a large pot.  Will sit outside (in Oregon, where it does rain).  Any ideas?  Thanks

  5. I have a two burner gas forge (home built) and a large coal forge (home built), but am becoming interested in blade smithing (knives/swords/axes).  I'm looking for suggestions on a gas forge for same (three burner?).  I'm prepared to spend $500 to $650.  Suggestions?  Recommendations?  References (names, addresses, etc.)?  Thanks much.

  6. I'm looking for a quench tank, specifically for knife and sword making.  I have a large barrel (wooden) for general cooling (water), but would like something smaller for specific purposes.  I'm thinking about some type of tank (oxygen type, or something without internal "stuff").  Suggestions?  Guide for cutting it down.  HELP.

  7. I have a two-burner gas forge (one I built) and a large coal forge (also home built), but I would like to get into knife making.  Need advice on the best gas forge - number of burners, opening size, etc.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

  8. Table is built, as specified.  The expanded metal "shelf" about half way to the floor is set in 2" angle iron.  The table weighs in the neighborhood of 1600 lbs, but rolls easily when the steel casters are unlocked.  Have a large post vise welded to the table.  Moved it from Colorado to Oregon with little trouble.  Shop here coming together.  Next purchase will be a plasma cutter and large compressor..  The present shop is 16' x 20' with a 16' by 8' covered porch.
