  3. well the torch was stolen today along with $90 worth of steel and my welding helmet and gloves, the rest of my tools and stuff where at my new house so that's good, but when i went to cut up my long pcs of steel and get the rest over to the new place everything was gone, mabby the police will find it, but i doubt it my luck isn't very good. im glad my anvil wasnt there its the only one i have seen for sale in my area in 8 months
  4. ya works grate, only have had 2 forge fires been moving and might be a little while befor i can get set up at the new place
  5. no blue print, it's 12 in. square on top, and 6 in. square on the bottom, and 6 in. tall. The tuyere sticks 1-1/2 in. above the bottom so I dont have to worry about clinkers. Here's a finished pic.
  6. here is a link to the vid i watched for it bud http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWfMvhpAZ_g
  7. The box bellows are good I like them, and they where easy to make... Tks for the hammering tips I'll give it a shot, the hammer I was using is a 2lb I have some smaller ballpings and a cupertino heaver ones also lol, but I'll stick with the liter one for now
  8. here is a short vid my wife took of me pounding on the rake.. i know i dont have a hood, ill bild one when i move in a cupple months tell then i think ill forge outside got pritty smoky on start up but the fan helped a lot http://s1188.photobucket.com/albums/z412/hiltsbilt/blacksmith/?action=view&current=100_0080.mp4
  9. so like the title says a lot of first today, been a long road to get here, being an OTR tuck driver dosent leave me a lot of shop time but i got r done. so enough talking here are the pics.
  10. the torch is the cheep part its the tanks that will kill ya, but worth every penny
  11. I finally got my oxy&acl tanks today, I have had my torch for a while now, things kept coming up and I never had the cash for the tanks. So I started cutting and welding up my fire pot and built a stand for my box bellows today yee haa. Some pics to prove it lol.
  12. they look good, u think that would split wood? kinda a dumb question but it would be a cool looking camp ax but not sure the angle is right for it
  13. here are mine.. i would probably make them smaller is i build another one mine are 4 foot long but i can use shorter strokes if i want, very fun build and simple
  14. well just got mine finished today. went with 2x12 for my 90# PW, put a peace of rubber under the anvil to dull the sound, ill add a hammer holder latter
  15. tks for the advice man, well have to see once there done how hard they are to pump.. there 4' long and 18in square, there not as tall as some i have seen so that might be ok, well see.
  16. well i thought i would show and tell got me a new to me anvil for 150 bones for a 90lb peter wright. not bad little anvil little damage but the face is nice and a way better option the my hunk of rr track i was going to use. my box bellows are also almost done will probably finish next time im home, im a truck driver so it varys when im home and can do this stuff:)
  17. jaws are about 4 inches not to small:) ya the forge will most likely be a brake drum fire pot, depends what i can get for scrap, then im going to build the box type bellows probably get the wood and start those this weekend depends how much cash the wife left me from my paycheck lol.. but ill be getting mt torch tanks tomorrow from airgas $325 not as bad as i thought, and worth it to have a torch agen. already have a welder its a little Hobart 125, that i have a tank for. small but a nice little one had it for 10 years no problems:) so im getting closer. I also have a 7 foot section of rail that will become my first ASO untell i find a anvil of my liking. ill post some pics of it when i get it done to, should work well see:)
  18. well been reading through the posts for a cupple weeks so i thought i would say Hi. picked up a post vice today at a antique shop for 60 bones better then i could find on CL so im happy and picked up a 50lb bag of coal sence i was down in ames ia about 30 min from here not sure if there is a closer place. the coal was 19$ for one bag and cheaper if u buy a pallet worth. not sure if that's to much or about right. haven't got my forge built yet though need some stuff before i build it probably in the next cupple of weeks because ill be building a side draft hood as well, gets to cold here for a outside only forge. I have also got quite a few different hammers and safety gear, just need to get the tanks for my new torch and i can start building more but the tanks are pricey for the first buy.
