Thank you RSmith and JGraff .im pleased to see that you guys understand wot its all about. I have posted a few 'smalls' I made before Christmas. Given the size of the dog I am going to build and the size of the parts i will use you will note a loss of accurate detai and the appearance that these are more 'chunky' . I dont want to use small components as these would take forever with very little financial return, although "chunky' (even a bit abstract???) I love the small ones i made. my favourites arev the piglet and the dancer made from 2 pairs of boltcutters. also note the kangaroos pouch is part of a forge fan gearbox. cheers andrew

Thank you JGraff for that explanation and drawing. i guess if i knew the real value and use of each and all items i would be reluctant to use them. one of my greatest joys is watching the public look at my sculptures and argue about the use of an item or tell each other stories from their long past that relate to a particular item. For many of the more 'older folk' the items can be a spark that ignites a long forgotten memory in their childhood or time with their father. cheers andrew

thanks woody, I am living on a farm at Urana NSW. I lived in townsville Qld for four years mid 80s. The shearer and 2 sheep sculpture I made for Muttaburra Qld (near Longreach ) will be opened in July. Thanks Beth, i have added lots more small stuff ( pictures tonight) I like the idea of casting I think it would make an interesting bronze. I will finish the sheep with a coat of fishoil and before its fully dry I will give it a dust bath ( a la elephant) with super fine dry red dust from my farm , this will take the shine off before it naturally ages to a darker matte patina.

I can learn a lot from them. i am very impressed with Helen's work in that the vacant, empty space between the scrap parts is of equal artistic importance and beauty as the parts themselves. (I may have to cut back on the amount of stuff I use? ) Joe seems to be a master of capturing warm, friendly animated attitude. Both these artists are brilliant. David E . Im so glad you like the sheep. I will post progress tonight. She has come alive with the adding of scrap to her upper body.

Thanks DangerDillon, That stuff is pretty skilled. to use such large pieces and still achieve good accurate gesture is what i like most about her work.

thank you beth,aljeter and iron man. I think the success of any animal sculpture lies in the proportions and stance of the feet and legs so I spent a lot of time in this area.(I hope I got it right) The sheeps rear end is another key area that looks a bit camel like but sets it apart and makes it recognisable compared to similar animals, I have to now find things to match the curvature of the wire cage. sometimes you need to cut scrap objects in half, sometimes multiples are required. where a hole is left then a distraction is inserted in the form of a small but interesting item.

here is the 3rd part of my latest commission. a just shorn ewe. i have done most of the harder stuff now i gotta clad her in rusty treasures.

Not So! I see in your work.. a lot of talent. You have a recognisable great style.The dog wine rack is fantastic. and what a great use of rabbit trap. The use of different feet is quite unique and works very well.(I would have never considered it ) What do you use to coat the shiny surface? I am going to have to produce some smaller stuff like yours to pay the bills. The market and peoples financial situation will decide how much and how big your stuff will be. I think I must have a bit more time than you thats all. My junk is sort of in separate piles I can find . groups . similar shapes . cast iron . round . long. flat. I also have stuctural and purely decorative piles of junk.
