  1. Hello, "Zietman's Forge & Smithy". That sounds good! Lets everybody know your proud to put your name on what you make! Thanks Richard
  2. Hello, OneRod! so whats holding you up from taking a torch back and getting the rest? Nice find of structual steel! Thanks Richard
  3. Ironscot, I looked at the Pheonix hammers also and asked the guys over on the Slacktub pub one night when the subject came up and one of the guys had one! He said they where great hammers and they where good for the money, but the companies service and tech support was almost non-existant! He ordered his and after calling constantly and threating legal action (months worth of that BS) they finally sent the hammer to him with no tooling, which he had pre paid for! He ended up making his own dies for it. For that kind of money I'd be leary of them, even though that guy was only one guy and I only got one side of the story. If you could go and directly pick the hammer up they might not try to hassle you face to face. You might call them and see what you can find out, and use your own judgment. You might post on the pub and see if anybody else has had any dealings with them. Thanks Richard
  4. Hello, I got this shear from a buddy. I traded him some used roofing tin that I salvaged and he then paid a guy some cash for this shear and then gave it to me in lue of the tin I gave him. It looks factory to me, and cuts like a dream, nice, clean cuts. I don't see any name or marks on it, but it does need some cleaning up. I'm thinking of de greasing it and killing the rust and painting it up black. Glenn sugjested painting the jaws yellow, for safety reasons, and I agree. Anybody else have a shear like this? Thanks Richard
  5. Hello, I've been fighting a head cold the past week and didn't get pics of stuff from last weekend posted, plus I got a whole bunch of good stuff yesterday! The stuff from last weekend included a chunk of 5" dia pipe, a tie rod, a PTO shaft, part from a A-frame suspension, a plow coulter(sp?), a cast "D" handle for a shovel, a chunk of 1" rod, a socket wrench, and a coil spring and some leaf springs (not pictured). The stuff from this weekend included a pile of leaf springs(some are off a semi, 1/2" thick), some 1" rod, a chunk of 8" I-beam, a chunk of 1"x3" bar, a round piece of 3/4" plate, a chunk of 1 1/2" bar stock channel, a chunk of 12" pipe, a PTO shaft, and some grader blade ((((second set of pics))))
  6. Strine, Nice find! Whats the name on it? http://owwm.com/ Try this link for info.
  7. Doc, If Jr(Irnsrgn) says it'll work, don't hesitate no mater how weird it might sound to you! Jr is a master in my opinion. Check out his Blueprints on anvil repair, in the blueprint section. Your on the right track!
  8. Hello, Here is another site for this kind of set up. http://64.176.180.203/charcoalretort.htm
  9. Thomas, I think your right! They do a couple of things right, all the stadiums and arenas get built or rebuilt!!!!! Also gives the local head idiots a chance to look like they're doing their jobs!
  10. HA!, really, it was part of the opening ceremonies for the games, this guy beating on this "anvil" cool!
  11. Hello, Could you give us some examples of what you'd use this for? I've never heard of this product before.
  12. Hello, Here is the finished results! All thats needed to finish the beader is I need to get my wood lathe restored so I can turn a new wooden handle for it. I'm also looking for any dimensional drawings for dies. I've got a set of Ogee dies right now, but need to turn out some of the others on my metal lathe. Some of the dies I could figure out pretty easy, but some would be dificult. Anybody have a manual for one of these? Enjoy the pics! Thanks Richard . .
  13. Hello, I seen some neat pics over on the Practical Machinist forum. Some showing big chain making. http://www.practicalmachinist.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=001754
  14. Hello, I just checked Ebay and there is a company with a 30g bottle for $4.50.
  15. Hello, Dale, I'm in Lacrosse Ks., northwest of Great Bend. I'd love to get with the GP guys but I'm even farther away. I'm envolved with the Otis Old Iron Days Show in Otis, Ks. I mainly show engines and let my brother do the blacksmithing at the shows. I like working with metal and like making tools. Welcome to the forum. Talk to you later!
  16. Hello, Not too sure about the late model ones but the older one should be cast iron. Other than weight trading (trading wieght of your junk metal for good metal at a salvage yard) I don't know of any thing they'd be good for. Thanks Richard
  17. Hello, I know how we can "fix" this problem. Lets just move on! We all know where Glenn stands on this and we know where Dan stands on this, and I don't expect everybody to agree 100% on everything all the time. The only two people that have the right to remove that thread is the original author and Glenn. That is a private matter between those two and those two only. I personally don't want Dan to leave the membership, or anybody else unless they make the choice themselves. After all, it is a free country (within reason). If they decide to leave and then decide to return later, I'd welcome them with a firm hand shake and a open door. I say if the majority say leave the post, then so be it. I've had one of my posts edited that I put a questionable word in, but I didn't get upset about it because it wasn't worth the effort! Now if somebody said that I couldn't post about my right to fly the American flag, then I'd say we have a problem, and that type of censorship should be fought. The thread was posted and as soon as Glenn found it he tried to redirect it and remind everybody to post with caution from then on. The only thing that was changed in your post, as far as I know, Dan, was one 3 letter word. Now I've never met you Dan, and I don't know what your family situation is, but when my 11 and 14year old nephews are with me or looking over my sholders at this very site, and they see a reference to that ""type" of bed" you referred to, I can guarantee you when they ask, "Whats that?" I'm not going to be too impressed! You also need to remember there is a number of folks here that teach BSing to 4Hers and home schooled children. How do you think that looks to their folks? But as edited as so edited now, it fits in a level that is generally exceptable to the general pubic, you general opinion is still getting across to everybody and I won't have to explain, in detail, that that "type" of bed is for when my nephews read the forum along with me. There are a few other ways that you could have posted about that "type" of bed, why not next time, say to myself, "Am I going to be "edited" if I say it that way?" And if you think even remotely that you might be edited, either change your wording or ask around by PM and see if anybody has a good idea of how to word it so the possibility of a edit is minumized. Also, I've been attacked verbally on this site by a "guest" and as soon as Glenn saw it, he got it taken care of. If the "guest" would have worded it in a maner of a question rather than a attack, I would of gladly answered it. I hope everybody sticks with the site and everybody will decide to "just move on". We know where everybody stands on this and as a civilized group of people, we can come to a understanding and have respect for each others decisions and thoughts. Otherwise we're just splitting hairs or making a mountain out of a molehill.
  18. Hello, WOW! Thats pretty neat! Do you do just arms and armour, or do you do other blacksmithing? Love to see pics of your shop.
  19. Hello, Thomas, 3 words, price of fuel! I've got a gasser, but I havn't got my little shop set up for it. It'd take a little work to do. I've got coal and it'd be easier to build a charcoal retort than to work on getting the gasser set up. Thats my thoughts on the tube drops also! now if there was any hammerins near by! The closest one is a 3 hr drive away. Anyways I ran across a find today!!!!!! I was headed down town and drove by a place that I guess the old folks had went to the oldfolks home or something. There was some furniture, a bagger from a riding lawn mower, and a old table saw!!!!! I know this isn't BSing related but the saw is such a find that I had to share it with you all! I've got another yardsale table saw, that I bought for $10, but this looks to be older and better built than it is.
  20. Hello, Wow! whats the curved pieces on the magician made of? What are you using for the dies in the magician? That taper maker is adjustable right? That hammer is differnt looking, any pics of it? I don't know much about electrical stuff, so I'll hold comments on that . Sounds like your on the right track, even with the second guessing. Thats how we learn to do things better! Might just have to remember to hold the jaws of the tongs in a horizontal plane, to use the magician. Keep it up! Thanks for the pics!!!!
  21. and right into the side of the the revenuer's '32 Ford!!!!
  22. Thomas, Any quick way to tell which ones are case hardened?
  23. here's this past weekends new haul from my buddies! hope to have more next weekend! Now if it'd just rain so they'd lift the burn ban so I could forge something! the shorter chunk of pipe is drill casing, not sure about the longer one, although I think it is too. Also got a hand full of pullys off of verious elec. motors. the rest of the tube drops in a bucket, and one of the yard/shop cats, inspecting the latest haul. I know I"m not the only one that gets good stuff in all the time,,, lets see some more pics of your good finds!
  24. Pics, Pics, we must have pics!!!!!!!!!
