Free lathe

That is one SWEET item there!!!!! Great score!

It doesnt need to be good just label it as "rustic" or "old fashioned"
Even rustic or old fashioned items should display pride of workmanship and the skill of the maker if you want continued sales.

I got started because I couldn't find decent blades for the work i was doing. At that time I was trapping (before PETA) and spent nearly all winter in the woods. A good knife is your very best friend.

I would love to see what the bottom side of the heel looks like. It almost looks to me like the top plate was added on to the anvil. I could be wrong. I have been before.

You do wonderful work. Keep posting them.

JJ 's mother in law is going in for shoulder surgery. Prayers would be welcome.

I like Barges cement for tacking on something before I sew it up. Never caused me any trouble.

Thanks BT. I will have a look!

That is a very nice looking anvil. Where are those made? The only ne I have ever seen with feet like that was a photograph of a medieval piece.

Depends on you. How long will it take you to become expert enough at blade smithing to attempt one?

I have to say, she's doing real well. A pleasure to have as a student.

I will see if Master Cad has a large back up then. What do you plan to use these for? Actual combat as in live steel or SCA? Also knowing your location would help.

hope you have real deep pockets. I have seen similar run to about 350.00 per pair.

That's a real beauty!

Added to the list here. I know how medical folks are having worked as a CNA, and having a daughter who is an RN.

I got started with a hunk of RR iron a hammer and a will to learn. Before I laid the first steel in the forge I read anything and everything I could get my hands on. I picked the brains of those who had been in the craft for years. Then I did the same dull boring exercises over and over until I could do what I thought to be a decent job. Then on to the next set of exercises. Basics will carry you through !!! Pipe dreams will just let you down.

Yep GVR 4579 I was asking you. I know lots of the folks who formerly worked Shakopee so was wondering if you might be one. I should throw in a " Howdy Neighbor " about here too. I'm over in Wisconsin in the Eau Claire area. and get uparound the Twin Cities fairly often.
Finnr -
Did you do Shakopee?

that held an upsetting block the vise you have shots of looks to be a bolt heading vise. Woodsmith has one nearly identical to it that is complete. Check his gallery I think he has pictures of it up.
