Wrought Iron - tough
Hi, I was just hacksawing a piece of wrought iron. I know it's not hard by carbon standards but it seemed very difficult to saw compared to mild steel. What's up with that? Thanks, Larry

Thank you to Brian Brazeal
As it happens today I brought my forge to school today and demonstrated for each of my 7th grade classes. When we went inside we watched the heart video. "Awesome, and Cool" were the most common responses.

tips on forge welding
Brian, Is the flux readily available or can we just make our own if we find the ingredients? Is A36 a common steel? (I'm a novice and don't know much about steel) Also I want to thank you and Lyle for the great teaching demonstrations you gave in NH at the NBA meet a few weeks ago. It was instructive and inspiring. Larry

Coal sources in Guam
Ask somebody in Guam about the coal. A metal worker might know of a blacksmith on the island. The population is only the size of a smallish city.

Building up a shop and skill, on video.
baker, take advantage of your welding course. Surely your instructor should know some blacksmiths in the area and he can help you make tools for blacksmithing while you practice welding. I can see that you really want to learn. Send me your address and I'll send you a copy of "Edge of the Anvil" by Jack Andrews. I have two. [email protected]
