  1. That one was rough turned on a lathe and then filed. I also do them traditionally use fullering and filing. Heres one that was fullered and filed.
  2. Here's one I forged from 1 in. square mild steel with 5160 forge welded in for the edge. Curly maple haft with pour in place fittings and bands. Antler tip for the clean out plug.
  3. Mix one bottle of hydrogen peroxide with equal part vinegar and add about a cup of salt. Spray on de-scaled metal let stand till dry. To speed things up spray bleach on after the peroxide. DO ALL THIS OUTSIDE! Gives off some pretty mean fumes. Repeat until you get the color you want,then rinse and let dry. I have used this method many times with satisfaction. May be top coated with clear also. Hope this helps

  5. Thanks Ted I appreciate the kind words. I will be glad to answer questions and help anyone all I can. If people had not of help me I could not be making hawks. I also do other blacksmithing as much as time will allow.

  7. It seems I am always in a hurry so bank my coal,coke on the inside fire up the torch,turn the blower on add a little torch and start raking it in. I will have a hot fire in just a few minutes. I made my rake out of 4 tines cut from an old garden rake. I made a handle and welded it to tines.
  8. Hello all, Just signed on to this forum. Feels like home already. I have been blacksmithing awhile but never have hung out here. Always something to learn.
