I Forge Iron

Rose

Here's one of the recent things I have made, on the last day of Mark Aspery's Fundamentals class back in October. I'm a newbie, but enthusiastic about it. :-)

Texture on the petals is from cold-peening. The petals were forge-heated then formed with scroll tongs. A small collar (not visible in photo) is forge welded onto the stem to support the stem-as-rivet. Paste wax finish.

The base I made after the fact... a chunk of 3/4" plate, chamfered and textured in the forge, with a hole in the top to hold the rose stem. I brushed it while warm with a brass brush, then paste wax to give it a cast bronze look.
