i seen an ad on craigslist
blacksmith tools
hammers and THONGS
do any of you blacksmiths wear a thong , my wife gets sick at the thought of me wearing one .
perhaps a thong with a hammer holster .
could this be a new product line -
good thing this is a hobby for me , becuase if it was a business i would be out of business .
never made a nickel on blacksmithing , except tools i have made and sold to blacksmiths
but i sure have a lot of tools , you would think i was a pro .
same goes for my woodworking tools , a cabinet maker would blush at my collection
however i don't have the skill just the tools .
as a machinist in a shop the owner of my shop would fire me if i spent that kind of time and energy on tools.
i could here him now ,
" chuck you are missing the point , we are here to make a profit not build a super shop"
and i would reply " ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh , i get it , it is a money thing " -
my problem or non problem is i keep upgrading .
start with a rivett forge end up building a better forge, what to do with the rivett forge .
i want to forge at night without lighting a fire so i build a michael porter type bottle forge . now i have a rivett forge , nc whisper baby{i got for a song} a handbuilt coal forge and my handbuilt gas forge.
start out with a h.f anvil end up with a 300 pound fisher and three others that went down the pike , but still have the hf and the fisher
i cant believe the stuff one can aquire in a little over a year
my dilemma is that after a while i forget what tools i have so i aquire more of the same .
i love tools but how do you STOP THIS MONSTER , meaning me the tool collector -
look at my gallery there is a picture or a steer door knocker
i made a steer head meat fork that my wife has confiscated
will get a pic and post it,
for my first attempt it turned out real good
the main thing is the placement of the eye sockets and the nose
i was so intriged by the critters i bought a book on how to make
it is called "iron menagerie"
good book with a lot of tooling examples -

hey Smokeman
i live in claymont , de
about 40 minutes from you and i go to that nottinham flea market all the time near the herrs factory.
not to be forward but do you think sometime i could visit your forge
i have only been doing this for about 1.5 years and i would love to see what you are doing.
oh by the way i love the cowboy wok, never heard of one of those but there is a lot of things i haven't heard of . thats what it is all about -
I have had my bouts with clinical depression and stress and i still do occasionally.
one thing a pshychiatrist told me and makes a lot of sense was
your stress account only has so much in it and if you keep using it up on a daily basis
you will shorten your life dramatically .
we can control how much stress we spend out of our accounts.
here is one way i learned , don't expect others to act or do like you think they should
because they won't .
One of my main credos is DO NOT PERSONALIZE someone elses behavior .
it is between you and god and thats all , no matter what someone else thinks .
by no means have i conquered stress but i do try to employ some tools i have learned over the years.
here is one that i think of occasionally " thank god for dirty dishes"
figure it out
here is one of the things that stresses me out i can't seem to conquer
by the time i get home from work i am dead tired and the house always needs some sort of paint job or repair or my adult female children always have some drama going on
my wife always has her own set of circumstances which leaves me very little time to
enjoy my hobbies .
like blacksmithing , harley riding , and reading or whatever else i feel like doing .
perhaps it is just a time management equation

i just got back from a class at pieh tool for a three day weekend with Gordon Williams
i have went to classes before at touchstone, peters valley and a local guild
i think for me anyway if you want to learn how to get things accomplished i learned more at pieh tool than all the others combined .
i am writing a testimonial about my experiences will post hopefully within next week
hopefully the content of what i write will answer any questions you may have if not
feel free to ask
never been to john cambell, plan on it though , heard all good things . -

facinating historical subject
here is the link from wikipidea , but there is a wealth on the internet about subject.
