  2. "Blacksmith's can make anything but money and fix anything except a broken heart"

a welser i knew had a busines card that read

"I CAN WELD ANYTHING BUT THE CRACK OF DAWN AND A BROKEN HEART"

MY MECHNAIC FRIEND HAD A QUOTE ON HIS BUSINESS CARD

    " IF I CAN'T FIX IT IT AIN'T BROKE"
  3. i have no idea about the process on how to do it ,
i do not think it is real complicated though
i am however really delighted that you are considering this prospect .
i LOVE the united states of america , i have reservation however on how other "americans" feel about this great land of ours , including some of our government officials .
where do you intend to live if you are successful in your venture

  4. hey james ,
i have been wanting to have a posting like this for a long time
if i get a chance i need to post the pics of my drill press i devised
    doesn't work for a "durn"
don't know why i did it i have three store bought ones already
but thats what i do i make tools
i am always devising stuff even if i know it is an exersize in futility
glad you posted that becuse that is exactly what i would have done
not satisfied just bith an inoperative grinder
i would have to know why and how can i salvage the remnants
    hats off my friend

  5. hello Thomas , can't put my finger on it why i find it fasinating but you may have just tickled the reason why.
our forfathers which i hold in high regard are a great sourse of spiritual uplifting and
sense of what sacrifice and duty means
and when i find out tid bits of what they did in thier private lives to sustain a living it just adds to my admiration of great men .
thanks for that george washington info.
i will take the risk of sounding likea patronzing idiot but many that are in blacksmithing
probally posess the same qualities as our for fathers .
my thoughts are duty to self and family then to a higher cause such as hand forged
    utilities or art
doesn't get any closer that that in my book
i will leave it at that and you draw your own conclusions

  6. WOW thanks everyone
Hey NETT thanks for the info on studabaker for some reason my father is a big studabaker fan and he will get a kick out of the origins of the company he may have already known but i will tell him anyway

Again thanks everyone for sharing thier personal experiences with these magnificent animals , what a wealth

  7. i think thats how you spell it
anyway came home from work today , and across the way at a wine and liquor store the budweiser team was there with the clydsdales and the carriage
    my first thought was horse shoes {of course everything relates to metalworking somehow right}
i have no idea what i am talking about but i would venture to say those horse require a lot of steel and a lot of coal forging those shoes to fit.

those fine animals probally get the best of care , anyone know anything about this subject?

  8. fosdick was known for precision jig bore machines , hold a tenth all day long {.0001}
probally still does , thats the way that old iron was .
nice shop , does he have a lot of contracts ?

does your stomach have butterflies in it when you visit, do you get a headache thinking of all the tools you could make for blacksmithing or other projects
