Attic Find Grinder

You will want to be careful with that sort of old school grinder.  There are no guards of any kind.  If it does work and you decide to use it I'd recommend quickly replacing the grinding wheels or better yet, use it for buffing and put cloth wheels on it which cannot come apart and injure you.

Thanks for the advice. That pic was a little misleading, I thought those where grinding wheels too. But when I pulled it down I saw that they were actually the back of the guards. Its a Western Auto Wizard brand with a wire brush and a double conical shaped stone. The motor is a Fairbanks & Morse 1/2 hp 1725 rpm needs a new capacitor. Still a pretty cool find.

Make a guard over the belt & pulleys and don't trust the stones safer to start fresh than be picking pieces out of you face. Imagine the liability of some company offering that on the market today!

Glad to read in your reply post that it does have guards for the stone and wire wheel. Probably still a good idea to replace the stone with a fresh new one. Better safe than sorry kind of thing. Definitely should fabricate and install a belt guard before you use it. Awesome find there. Good luck with getting it going and be sure to share pictures of it.
