March 8, 200917 yr i have just make a knife and i wanna make patterns on it but its not damascus so what house hold accids can i use to draw patterns on it? thanx DM
March 8, 200917 yr just about anything asitic will corode normal (non stainless) steel... even lemon juce ! but makeing faux damascus that looks good....... good luck!

March 9, 200917 yr you can draw any pattern you want on the blade, then coat the pattern with nail polish, I use red because it is easy to see that you have it all cleaned off when you are done. Once the polish is dry, etch in ferric chloride for as long as you want. After etching, wash with hot water and neutralize the ferric chloride with baking soda. Wash again and then remove the nail polish with acetone. If you polish the blade to a mirror finish first, the nail polish covered areas will be bright mirror finish and the uncoated areas a dark gray or black.
