Featured Replies

hi i am looking for a blower for my coal forge i made in school i would prefer a hand crank blower but will settle for an electric one. if anyone knows where i can pick one up for a low cost or knows somewhere i can just get one let me know thanks

Grant

Please post your location, go to "CP" at the top of the page, you may find someone near you who has one. Welcome to Iforgeiron.

well for low cost the electric is the cheaper that i have found i paid 7 bucks for the blower i have got it at the flea market a few years ago and have seen many out there you could use a hair dryer also

ok a hair dryer will work for the time being but i would prefer to get a decent one again if anyone has any ideas on where i can find an actual blower let me know

thank you Grant

Welcome Grant - Would you like to go to monthly bllacksmithing meetings? They are very close to you :) In fact a few of our members live in St.Cloud. We meet the first monday of every month although the winter months we meet on saturdays. Your welcome to come and enjoy some smithing, and someone may have an extra blower you can purchase. JK

it should 100 cfm maybe a little much but make a slide gate valve to cut it back

is 25 cfm too small?

i think it is i would go with the 100 and make plate that swings over the hole to cut it back theres some pics on the site from others that have made them my blower really is to much i can melt a rr spike in 5 min on full blast on the blower so i just cover the blower opening some to cut back cfm

The blower I have on my shop forge is one that comes on a woodburner, it has a 2" round outlet, and came with a rheostat. I paid around $70 for it new, but having a rheostat prevents having to put a dimmer switch on it, and risk burning it up. I just set it, and have a regular lighting switch on the forge to turn it off when I turn away to forge.

that blower should work. You can put a slide gate on, or you can wire in a light dimmerswitch to control your air flow. I used one rigged like that for years.

100 CFM should be good for the purpose. There are several ways to control the air flow: a plate to partially block the inlet, a slide gate to block the discharge or a rheostat to control the speed of the motor. I have all three in service, but then I bought way to much blower capacity. I used the rheostat to control the speed and keep the noise down. I use the slide gate on the discharge as a shutoff.

If you have a large air compressure an old rose bud work real good and makes air control a snape
