Woody
for a stone they sell honing oil but any light oil will work. I have used 3 in 1 oil for years. I don't know about a grinder though never used oil on one of those
Frosty
Maybe you're talking about one of the slow turning grinding stones? Most of those use water. Oil stone uses light oil, Whet stone uses water. Even though many ceramic "stones" claim to be "dry" stones I use a little water on them or I end up having to unload it every so often. Unloading a ceramic stone tends to mean letting it soak in acid till the metal's gone. So, I use a little water to avoid the hassle. Finnr
I don't use oil on oil stones. Mineral spirit works far better for me to prevent the stone clogging. Finnr
rthibeau
Punch Lube comes in different mixtures, ptree's lube sold thru IFI is what I use,,,great stuff. Some people use coal powder in the hole to lube a punch. Hofi has some BPs about lubes. For sharping a knife on a stone a little light oil is good. A light touch on a belt sander works good, too.
