November 13, 200817 yr This piece was forged from ~3/8" stock. Its like a double hook w/ security springs rivited on. Anyone know what it was used for?
November 13, 200817 yr Don't know what it is, but I know what I could use it for. "HONEY COME HERE. LOOK WHAT i MADE!"
November 13, 200817 yr Author Each hook is about 3" dia. How does the spring work for hobbling a horse?
November 13, 200817 yr if that's what it is, the springs would prevent the horse's leg from coming out. My thought is that it's part of a wagon, where someone needed security for something with an eye against the bouncy roads, idk
November 13, 200817 yr My guess is that it could be part of the harness for a team of horses to control the reins so they don't get tangled.
November 14, 200817 yr As a Horse person, I am doubtful that it is Hobbles, due to the close coupled nature of the article in question. It is also doubtful that it was used to keep the traces from tangling due to the large size. I am still not really certain of the use of the article though. Other that really cool and now I want to make a pair.
November 21, 200817 yr Author Thanks for all the input. It could be a one-time specialty item to serve a specific purpose, and we may never know. still, I'm curious, and am posting this to re-fresh the thread, incase some relative old-timer wanders by.
November 22, 200817 yr i think it could be hook that would hold some type sacks or some thing like that and it would hang from a over head trolly and move through a building i seen some thing like that years ago in i think it was a really long chicken coop
