November 9, 200817 yr I built this yesterday from material I picked up at the local recycler. I have about $5 in it. I used 4x4 salt treated feet. I used a bolt under the horn at the base to secure the anvil in the frame. It deadens the ring from my anvil but it works very well. I could'nt find a stump so I built this instead.
November 9, 200817 yr That's a nicely built stand! $5, you can't beat that with a stick, but a hammer difinately!
November 9, 200817 yr ... I could'nt find a stump so I built this instead. That is a great looking stand -I wish I could weld like that (...actually I just wish I could weld ) Just one question ... isn't that a stump in the background Happy hammering! Sam BTW what is the tool on top of the anvil? (...okay ... actually two questions ...)
November 9, 200817 yr Author Yes, thats stump in the background. It was pine and too small for my anvil. I was using it to get by till I built something. Good eye!
November 10, 200817 yr That's almost the best kind of stand, $5, the best is free. Good job. Hope it works well for you.
November 10, 200817 yr Nicely done. Deadening the ring of the anvil is a good thing if you value your hearing. I build a similar steel stand last spring and was surprised how well it dampened the ring. Frosty
