April 26Apr 26 When pouring concrete we put rebar in for strength, to help prevent cracking, to tie together old and new.... Does anyone use chicken wire when putting refractory cement in their forge? Is it a dumb idea? I'm not sure how it would react internally to all the heat cycles. Thanks, Dark Horse
April 26Apr 26 Most chicken wire I’ve seen is galvanized. I’d be hard pressed to put it anywhere near fire.
April 26Apr 26 Some people put stainless needles in it, like they do with small scale, fancy concrete castings.
April 26Apr 26 Good Morning Dark H. If you take a dead Clothes Dryer apart for the Heating Element, that is Nickle Wire. It will withstand all the Heat of a Forge. I have had a friend who makes/does Ceramic's to make me Ceramic Buttons, exactly like Knob Drawer pulls with a sideways small hole through the stem. I drill a small hole through the outer body of the Forge, feed a loop of the Nickel wire that is holding the Ceramic Drawer Pulls in place. Then I add the Refractory Mud, The Drawer Pulls hold the Refractory in place. Yes, you have some prickly things on the outside of the Forge, So What..!! Neil
