August 11, 2025Aug 11 build a checkers and a chessboard out of iron using bolts, washers, nuts and adaptable metal objects as pieces. Tips Hi, a friend of mine suggested I make an artistic chessboard and checkers using metal objects as pieces, such as washers, nuts, bolts, or similar adaptable objects. Any artistic suggestions? Thanks. https://macgyverisms.wonderhowto.com/how-to/make-macgyver-style-chess-set-using-just-nuts-bolts-0144591/
August 11, 2025Aug 11 Good to see you again Angiolino, you ask such good questions. I've been seeing chess sets made from things like fasteners for years, some really nice, some unimaginative. I don't have ideas for pieces and only a couple tips. The very first video he was sanding and grinding chrome plated hardware without breathing protection. Chrome oxide (hexavalent chrome) is a serious breathing hazard, it's not only toxic it is a true carcinogen, it WILL give you lung cancer with enough exposure. The same goes for welding chrome. I strongly advise you NOT to use Cadmium plated hardware for anything you might want to grind, sand cut. Cadmium is very dangerous stuff, much worse the chrome! BEWARE gold colored hardware! DRATS! I can't cut and paste images, the last OS update decided I need to save everything to the cloud and post images from there. I'll PM the link showing different bolts, nuts, etc. I found searching the term. "Runner bolts". It of course, hit on a bunch of social media things about some guy named Bolt who is on the run. Down the page a ways I found an Amazon listing full of different nuts, bolts and other fasteners. They should give you some ideas and hardware to look for. Frosty The Lucky.
