May 13, 20251 yr I'm not new to blacksmithing. But I've only owned coal fire forges. I've used propane forges quite a bit when visiting other peoples shops. I recently had a bit of an upgrade in space at home, and would like to setup a propane forge now. I'm sure there a lot of decent forges out there, and I know a lot of people build their own, but I have a couple hundred bucks in amazon gift cards burning a hole in my pocket, and I'm wondering if there is anything worth getting from Amazon? Most of the ones I've seen there look rather cheap and/or dangerous. Some have comments saying the gas lines get hot, etc.. Does anyone here have any experience with any of the stuff on Amazon? Thanks!
May 14, 20251 yr Welcome from the Ozark mountains After looking at what was available, my wife & I decided to build our own. There is a lot of information about building one on the forum. Here is a link to our build. 20 pound propane tank forge in progress - Gas Forges - I Forge Iron I can’t control the wind. All I can do is adjust my sails. ~Semper Paratus~
May 14, 20251 yr Too many of the better forges available on Amazon and elsewhere online have been pirated as soon as they proved effective. Heck, look at how many versions of the T burner are are being sold as The Frosty T burner and I made the T public from the start. The world is full of scammers, frauds and thieves. NEVER buy from someone online who insists on cash or check! The T burner is easy to build with nothing more specialized than a drill press, taps and a couple hand tools. And the overly yacky "inventor" is happy to lend you a hand if you have questions or problems. Frosty The Lucky.
May 16, 20251 yr I think that Diamondback Forge upgraded their method of building the body of their forges, and cheapened the materials they insulate them with. These changes allowed them to drop the price of the entry level single burner forge, down to the range of all those cheap imported forges. I suggest you look into one. You can always upgrade the insulation back up to ceramic board, when the ceramic wool needs changing in a few years
