I am looking to sell my grandfather’s anvil. He was a genuine blacksmith. The anvil is bloody old and seriously heavy. Has a great ring to it. 
Id love to know some details about it. All I can see is some lettering stamped on one side:-

Without pictures or knowing where in the world you are located, it will be difficult to give any idea of a value. The Read This First thread pretty much covers adding pictures. For an anvil both sides the front feet under the horn, back feet under the heel and the underside of the base will be a good start. Also the weight of the anvil as they are priced by the pound.

Good evening, old and heavy is sort of the default characteristics of an anvil. I'm in agreement with the above - a picture or eight might make it a lot easier to tell what you've got and give you a rough estimate of its value. I might add that faint marks can also be brought out by rubbing a white powder like talc or baby powder on the sides with it tilted slightly.

Those letters aren't especially familiar, but you could be misreading it slightly - anvils aren't easy to read at best and tend to get dinged up over time. Also, don't be tempted to clean it up with an angle grinder - you'd likely do a lot more harm than good.
