Prayers for Aussies in the path of Cyclone Alfred

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I live in Brisbane, in the state of Queensland, in Australia.

We have a category 2 tropical cyclone breathing down our necks right now and I know I, for one, would appreciate any prayers anyone can give, please.

It was originally meant to make landfall last (Thursday) night, but it has slowed and will now make landfall early tomorrow (Saturday) morning. It should cross the coast about 70km (~40 miles) north of us. Unfortunately, the delay in landfall isn't a reprieve. It means it will have more time for destructive winds and flooding rainfall to have an effect before the eye passes over.

We're about as prepped as we can be, so now it's just a waiting game, while my nerves jangle :(

Thanks everyone,

Jono.

You got it Jono, I'll say a few words with higher for you, yours and all those in harm's way.

Went into the Celtic garden and rang the anvil to ask for protection and safety for all affected.

Thanks guys,

In the end we've fared well. Winds were much lower than predicted in our area. Lots of rain still coming and we're not sure when power will be back on (typing this on my mobile phone) but no significant damage.

Cheers,

Jono.

Good news Jono, I hope nobody was lost and recovery and clean up go well.

Sadly, there was one life lost to flood waters and some people were wounded. Thankfully nothing more.

We got power back last night after 67 hours and I thought that was bad enough, but on returning to work today I learned that colleagues of mine won't have power until Saturday :(. It's the biggest loss-of-power event in Brisbane/south-east Queensland, ever.

Bad as losing one is, thank god there weren't more. Things can be fixed and replaced, people not so much.
