Manhole
Hello from Northern Michigan! I have a 127# Peter Wright anvil, and I am hoping someone could help age it for me. I think it was an 1830-1852 Era. This anvil was salvaged fron EJIW, East Jordan, MI many years ago. Any other info or great links would also be welcomed! Thank you! BillyBones
Welcome aboard. I am by no means an anvil expert but a bit that i picked up on Peter Wright anvils. In 1910 England passed a law that says durable goods shipped from England must be stamped "England". It is my understanding, again i am far from an expert, that is when Peter Wright started putting the word "England" under the word "patented". Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. I believe you are correct Billy, I can see ENGLAND under the Patented so I would say some time during or after after 1910 was when she was made. A great looking Peter Wright to boot, Have you done a ring & rebound test Manhole? All she needs is wire brushing to clean up the rust and some BLO or wax to protect and please no welding, grinding or milling to the hardened steel face which does more harm than good. BTW: We won't remember your location once leaving this post, hence the suggestion to add it in your profile. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. George N. M.
Welcome aboard from 7500' in SE Wyoming. Glad to have you. Nice anvil. Take care of it and avoid the things that Irondragon mentioned and your grandchildren's grandchildren will be using it. I have a 200# Peter Wright which is my primary anvil and it works great.
