January 14Jan 14 I've never tried anything like this myself but as an idea maybe if you attached a nut you could then heat it and bend by gripping the not, so as to nut damage the threads
January 16Jan 16 Thank you, ILikeShinySteel! I think that using nuts to protect the threads during the "heating and straightening" process is a fantastic idea! I have acquired the proper nuts. I'm able to thread 5 nuts on the "healthy" leg of the u bolt and only 2 nuts on the "unhealthy" leg of the u bolt. This is quite a process and I am doing so many things for the first time in my life. I have also enjoyed reading your posts about refurbishing your vise in Australia and I have made note of your insightful use of penetrol! Thank you so much for sharing!
January 16Jan 16 You can always just bulk up on washers if the 2 nuts don't reach all the way. Its probably not ideal but it will be servicable.
January 16Jan 16 oooooohhhhhhhhh........I see what you mean, Ridgeway, to provide some protection for the exposed threads that I'm not able to cover with the nuts, right? On just that particular leg? I LIKE IT! THANK YOU!
