I Forge Iron

Swedish scramsax with wooden grip

Recommended Posts

Here is a link to an article about a 7th-9th century scramsax found in Sweden.  The carved interlace on the grip is vey cool IMO.  When things like this are founhd I wish they would do a noninvasive analysis of the metal so that we could know if it was iron or steel or case hardened or what.

Thanks for the link George, you send so many good links, I'm still going down the rabbit holes in the menu of the last one you sent. I'm with you, I'd like to see more analysis of the whole artefact, I know the equipment and test methods are available to take 3D pictures of the blade's interior, analyze the metal and more.
