Dog's head hammer pros and cons

Generally speaking, the forward weight of a dog head hammer wants to pull the hammer head down, meaning that it hits very flat. If you want to do a lot of angled blows, that's a problem, but if what you're working on requires lots of precise flat blows, then it's the hammer for you. This is why it's historically been used in many parts of the world by those making blades or forging blanks for files.
