DannyTesarJr
Picked up a new vise today, missing the spring and mounting plate. I'm wondering what type of vise it is. It's jaws are probably 4 3/4" wide and on each jaw just underneath the screw there are 4 center punch marks in a line. I cannot find any other markings. Any help would be greatly appreciated! ThomasPowers
It's a blacksmith's post vise, AKA a leg vise. Many if not most are not stamped by the manufacturer; luckily it doesn't matter who made it if it's in good working order.
NoGoodWithUsernames
Good luck with the search. I've got a post vice with some markings and a logo on it but have had no luck tracking down any info. Have only found one other photo of the same logo and it was unsolved as to who it was. You might be able to find some info by going through old catalogs and looking at the shapes of the screw box and such. It looks like yours is in reasonable condition from the photos, get it mounted and put it back to work.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
If the screw and screw box are in good shape, it's good to go with a little cleaning and oil. The spring and mounting are a piece of cake to make.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I did a search like The Read This First advised for Post vise site:iforgeiron.com (without the under line) and it brought up a ton of threads. The closest that matches yours in the pictures is for a Peter Wright vise. May be a possibility. The chamfer on the legs is a clue. This post has good pictures. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/51786-peter-wright-leg-vise/
