Dan W
I usualy do S or wall hooks. Both are always needed around our 1814 living history camp.
metalliferous
j-hooks. They give a good warm up for most of the basic forging techniques, especially if you upset the corner for a right angle.
CurlyGeorge
S-hooks and steak turners. Like metalliferous said, it gives you about all the basic forging techniques and adds to the sales table.
civilwarblacksmith
I make a handful of nails to warm up. I can always use them or sell them as souveniers later.
inazuma_x
yeah i was actually thinking of swapping from rivets to nails so i could nail my shed together with ye olde hand-forged nails...before this whole neighbor thing happened that is... Dave Shepard
We make a lot of hooks in the shop at Hancock Shaker Village. It is a fast enough demo that most kids will stay focused. As mentioned it shows many operations: drawing out, forming a small scroll, twisting, cutoff hardy, and the post drill. We also make drive hooks instead of a nail hole sometimes. If we get a group that wants to get their moneys worth, we'll break out the nail header and make them some nails to give them. Dave
