The_Zed_Word
Picked this up from some farm nearby. Wire brushed a lot of paint and rust off. I'm guessing its cast iron? I don't see any markings other than maybe a "7" stamped into one of the feet? I'm not a black smith, just think anvils are cool and would like to know more about this one. Thanks! It's 75 lbs, 8.5" high, 18.25" long, top surface is 3.25" wide. No mouse holes, completely flat bottom.
Goods
What’s the ring and rebound? Cast iron won’t ring, kind of a dull thud, and the rebound will be 60% or lower. It could be cast steel which would make a very nice “working” anvil….or I could be a cheap CI copy. Keep it fun, David
The_Zed_Word
Rebound is maybe 40% at best. No noticeable ring, just a dull tink of sorts.
George N. M.
I'd agree that it is probably cast iron. The lack of crisp edges and the "rounded" shape makes it appear cast. by hammer and hand all arts do stand."
Goods
ASO. It would make a good door stop or yard ornament. (On the other hand, I have a CI anvil sitting on the floor right against my forge, works good enough for upsetting long bars.) Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Might help to know where in the world you are located. Kinda looks like a cast iron Vulcan, that has lost it's steel face plate.
