I Forge Iron

I am new to this forum as I just started trying to do a little blacksmithing with a grandson. Just bought a Buffalo 625 blower and a Champion forge. (147=22). I'm interested in finding the blower that will go on the Champion forge. Don't know which one that is. Any ideas?20210726_165656.thumb.jpg.24d027f010f23a31e60a5b283ae9d072.jpg

I’m confused,
The forge body in the pictures is a Buffalo forge that’s missing several parts from what I found searching, I don’t think that’s  a champion body,

I see a forge pan in the background of picture #4 is that what you need a blower for?

Good catch on the forge pan in the background, that does look like a #147 Champion pan.

According to the Champion catalog #52 from 1926 that I have the 147 forge uses a blower that looks like a # 40 or #140, although the catalog only calls it a helical geared hand crank blower and doesn't give it a number.

A picture of a 140 I have. (not-numbered)

It may be easier and faster to just get any old stand alone blower and hook it up the pan tuyere, because it may take you awhile to locate the exact original blower that mounted to it.

just remember to line that pan with clay before firing up,

Thanks TWISTEDWILLOW I see one on ebay for 190.00 but I'm skeptical there. Does anybody want these things for parts?

Thanks That pan is in good shape. Missing that (thing) that disperses the air and keeps the coal out of the air tube. Photos I've seen show a blower bolted to the pans edge. Never tried a coal forge yet. Would like to keep the forge as close to original as we can.

The thing that disperses the air is called a fire grate, easy to make or buy from most blacksmith supply stores. The #40 & #140 Champion blowers were free standing like mine and attached with a hose/tube or were attached directly to the tuyere like the #147 in your picture. To keep the pan in good shape, it must be lined with dirt or clay to prevent the cast iron pan from cracking.

A Champion style fire grate.
