Earnest 6
needing help identifying this leg vise and also the lower hinge is welded from factory. I wonder if its cast? thanks
ThomasPowers
My vote is for a Columbian; looks like a replacement screw/screwbox---too small. Neither cast iron or cast steel, drop forged in dies leaving the flash marks. Of course I am assuming it's in the USA. (And not in one of the other 100+ countries that participate here on the World Wide Web, you ask about a used car in Russia and Lada is a better bet than a Ford, and vise a versa in the USA...) I'd wonder if the weld was a repair; vice looks like it's had some hard times!
Earnest 6
Thanks, yes it's in U.S.
ThomasPowers
Woo Pig Sooie! My first degree was from UofA, Fayetteville; as was my Father's, Uncle's,... We're from the NW part of AR even though I've ended up out here by a circuitous route. I still have 13 acres of family land in Cedarville, (up 59 from Van Buren) Have you go in touch with any of the Arkansas Blacksmithing groups yet? Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
There are quite a few of us Arkansans on here. The BOA (Blacksmith Organization of Arkansas) is active with two chapters (NW and Central). We still are having meetings, although many members are not attending due to Covid-19, my wife & I included in that group.

ThomasPowers
Note that the maker of the screw and screwbox may NOT be the maker of the body. The Sears Roebuck catalogs around 1900 used to list replacement screw/screwboxes for post vises.
