December 16, 20205 yr right now i have an ebay forge thats square and open at both sides its lined with 1in thick wool thats been rigidized and had refractory i bought off here put on the wool and it just doesnt get as hot as id like and its a bit shorter then id like i want a 2 burner closed on 1 end ive seen the firebrick forges and for ease of assembly really wanted to make one but will it get hot enough to forge weld damascus ?
December 16, 20205 yr Depends on the firebrick and depends on the burner(s). (And how much propane you are willing to pay for!)
December 16, 20205 yr Author most likely ill buy premade burners and ive heard soft firebricks work better is that correct?
December 16, 20205 yr Depends on the definition of "better". Insulating fire bricks use less gas and come up to temp faster but are more friable. Hard firebrick take more time and gas to come up to temps but are less friable. Many types of insulating firebricks may be less flux resistant. Some types of hard firebricks are quite flux resistant. So which is "better"? Have you visited the large blacksmith shop in Rowe New Mexico yet? It's a bit over an hour on I-25 from Las Vegas New Mexico!
December 29, 20205 yr Author Thomas powers no id never heard of it once i have my harley going again and it warms up some I may have to check that out
