aaamax
Greetings from the North. I just saw this anvil on for sale and it has no recessed chisel table. The whole face is flat. Is this odd or common? My 104kg Söderfors is the only other one I have ever seen with out a drop for the table and I have always wondered if something got modified along the way. Would like to think that it was maybe stock and not modded. For those of you that like the details, the one pictured is 108kg and is 6000sek, almost $600. yt12
There are wiser minds than mine----but one guess has to be that the face was milled at one point.
John McPherson
The most common shape from England was the London pattern with the drop from face to horn, but Soho and Engine smith patterns were standard as well. On the Continent, the drop was, and is, much less common.
