October 2, 20196 yr Hello all. Acquired a champion 40 blower. Was working now it's stuck. Been in the shop until I had time to use it. As far as I know no teeth missing. Many thanks
October 2, 20196 yr Well, many questions on the unknown. A mouse or chipmunk could have loaded it with nuts or built a nest in it. Mud daubers could have built a mud nest in it. There could be a piece of something that is blocking the gears (may not have blocked it before but did now from sitting or moving it). The case bolts or fan nut may have loosened where the fan is wedging on the case. Just a few things to check without knowing more, and since you believe it doesnt have any broken gear teeth.
October 2, 20196 yr I've had mud daubers build nests in as little as 2 days, behind the fan of my working Champion Lancaster blower. Busy little fellows to say the least.
October 2, 20196 yr I've had kids at demos toss sticks and rocks in mine when my back was turned. Now I keep the coal forge right out front with the blower intake facing my direction and things blocking easy access. My champ 400 started crunching and locked up. I didn't yell loudly and the guy using it just turned harder and finally was slamming the handle back and forth to try making it turn. I've taking the cover off and it's turning smoothly now but I haven't found what happened. I've had a little talk about forcing MY tools. His blower has broken teeth so he doesn't use it anymore. Gee, I wonder. Frosty The Lucky.
October 2, 20196 yr Author Thanks for the info men. I checked it out and cleaned all the crud out. I knew that some people put a quart of transmission fluid in at oil changes to clean out the sludge. I had a quart and filled her up. After a few minutes I turned the crank and it started turning smooth as silk. By the way what type lube and how much do I put in? Thanks again!
October 2, 20196 yr I use chain saw bar oil with a little STP mixed in or 80 wt gear oil. Only put enough in to have the lower gear teeth run in the oil or it will leak the rest out. They use a splash lube system where the lower teeth lift the lube to the other parts.
