Permanent blacksmith shop in an enclosed trailer.

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just wondering what your thoughts are on having a permanent stationary shop in an enclosed traile. My reasons for this are the the local regional district restricts the number of square feet that can be allocated to buildings...and on my lot I'm maxed out, so cannot get permission to build an extra building for a shop.

I'm thinking double axle 8 to 8 1/2 wide by maybe 16 with extra height as I'm 6'2".

This is going to be a permanent shop even tho I will leave the wheels on it to avoid problems with the local building inspector.

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you looked through JLP Services' pinned Portable blacksmith shop thread in this section?  It's a little different concept since Jennifer's goal was/is a portable smithy for demos, but a lot of the concepts should cross over.

I'm 5'11" tall not sure what that would be in Cm.   I can tell you that you would have no problem at 6'2" in the trailer in fact nearly everything would be close to your height comfort zone.
it is 8X8X10. If I were to do it again I would make it 8X8X14.  the extra 4 ft would be for storage and a foot hammer.  the setup as it is now is perfect for everything but no storage room. I can fit the foot hammer but need storage when traveling.

And nearly all the Youtube videos were filmed in the trailer. Many never even realize it is a trailer. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8WRbArfgi8kSaDek7kh_1Q/videos?view_as=subscriber

Oh, one thing I would change is i would make the roof vents steeper (taller).   I was concerned with the  overall trailer height but after the fact would make it nearly 1ft taller. This would make it more usable.   It works now but would be nice to be able to open them more and not get dust or rain in the trailer when they are open.

I'm 6'2" and have forged comfortably in Jennifer's trailer.
