SLAG
I "inherited" an old rock solid pair of vise grip pliers.* It does not work. It needs a new spring. I have done a net search and found nothing. I checked out the vise grip site and several on-line vendors gleaned from a google search. I am not going to trash the tool. Does anyone know where I can get that spring? Thanks, SLAG. * It still has the U.S. patent number stamped on it. Those original vise grips sure were built solid.
Buzzkill
Does it use the same spring as the newer versions? If so I found a bunch of places to get replacement springs in a couple minutes of searching. Amazon, EBay, and Irwin Tools all have the replacement springs for sale. SLAG
Mr. B.-Kill, Thank you very much for your quick response, and information. It is appreciated. I will check the spring on the pliers and compare it to one of my newer vise grips. Regards, SLAG.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
You could always make one. I have made many springs for muzzleloaders and it's fairly easy.
SLAG
IDF&C, Thank you for your suggestion. What alloy of steel do you use for your springs? Regards, SLAG.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
To be honest, I don't know. I buy spring stock from several gun parts suppliers and go by thickness. I harden them in oil and temper with molten lead in my bullet casting pot set at 700 degrees F.
