January 20, 20197 yr Hi Guys, In the process of converting a 20lb propane cylinder into a forge. The dimensions before Kaowool are 9" by 12". Allowing for 2" Kaowool I worked the volume out to be 8"x9" = 452.39 cu inches. How will a single burner perform in a forge of this volume? I've read that there should be one 3/4" burner per 350 cu inches so I fall short....will just the one burner have a significant difference on my forging ability? Not into forge welding at this stage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
January 21, 20197 yr There is a pinned post that I believe answers this Also what about refractory coatings? Ceramic fibre blanket with out ridgidizer or a castable is a big no for safety, there is a pinned post about that as well.
January 21, 20197 yr It depends partly on the burner, but any 3/4" burner, running reasonably well, should do just fine in that size forge, so long as you follow all the recommendations about insulation, finish coatings, exhaust openings, and limiting secondary air; just simple common sense about forge construction.
