I recently picked up a 250lb Hay-Budden Anvil and was trying to find out the age by the serial # 217543 or 217548 it’s hard to tell if it is a 3 or 8 for the last # any info would be appreciated, Thanks

Five numbers off won't make any difference, looks like a 3 to me. Someone with a copy of AIA will be along directly. It looks like your anvil is in excellent shape and I hope you have read enough to know not to do any grinding on the old gal. Hot steel will shine up the face nicely. Speaking of reading, have you read this thread yet?
