The Athens Forge a member of the AFC will meet Sat. Jan.28 at 10 AM. This meeting will be dedicated to open forge time for any member. So bring your idea's and some material.

The Athens Forge a member of the AFC will meet Sat. April 22, at 10AM. Athens Forge has planned the rest of the 2017 meetings around knife making.  We have several good blade smiths in our forge, and they will lead the presentations, and do the demos. This meeting will start with a discussion of different parts of a knife, different knife styles, and materials. The Athens Forge a member of the AFC will meet Sat. May 27, at 10 AM. We will continue the plan to focus the monthly meeting for the rest of 2017 on knife making. Last month we talked about the different parts and styles of blades, and some common steels to use. Saturday we will talk about the basic tools needed for knife making, with open forge time following for AFC members. Visitors are always welcome, for more info. see www.athensforge.com.

The Athens Forge, member of the AFC will meet Sat. June 24, at 10 AM. We will continue the plan to focus the monthly meetings for the rest of 2017 on knife making. In April we talked about the different parts and styles of blades, and some common steels to use. In May we talked about the basic tools needed for knife making, and some tricky filing and fitting jigs, even had a box jaw tong demo. This month we will have an abrasive specialist, to talk about and allow us to try different types of belts, and maybe even several different style belt grinders to try. Open forge time will follow for AFC members. On Sept 8-10, 2017 the AFC will hold their annual conference at Tannehill State Park. Demonstrators this year will be, Jymm Hoffman, Raymond Head, and Steve Alford. The demonstrator bio's can be viewed at www.athensforge.com.

The Athens Forge, a member of the AFC will meet Sat. July 22, at 10AM. We will continue the plan to focus the rest of the 2017 meetings on knife making. In April we talked about the different parts and styles of blades, and some common steels to use. In May we talked about the basic tools needed for knife making, and some tricky filing and fitting jigs, even had a box jaw tong demo. June was about abrasives. This meeting the focus will be on heat treatment. There will be open forge time for AFC members, and possibly a short forging demo.

There will be demonstrations on forging different blade styles, by Athens Forge members George Ezell, and Steve Alford. Open forge time for AFC members will follow.

The Athens Forge a member of the AFC will meet Sat. Sept. 23 at 10 AM. This meeting will focus on materials for knife handles and their decoration. There will be an Iron In The Hat.  A special item, a completed knife by Calvin Garland, will be a separate drawing. There will be open forge time for AFC members.

Altho this years meeting have been dedicated to knife making, we are a general blacksmithing group and plans are in the works for next years meetings, so bring your ideas and suggestions.

The Athens Forge, a member of the AFC will meet sat. Oct 28, at 10 AM. This meeting will be an open forge for members, so bring you material, tools, ideas, problems. If someone can't help with it we'll make something up!

To conclude our years focus on knife making Dale Huckabee of Maylene, AL. will be our demonstrator at the Nov. 25 meeting of the Athens Forge. He has been making knives for many years.  He is a member of the American Bladesmith Society, ABS, and has achieved the Journeyman rating. Dale will be forging a small blade, with the focus on explaining the criteria of reaching the Journeyman rating.

We will have an Iron In The Hat, so bring something nice.

The next meeting of the Athens Forge, will be Sat. Dec. 16, 2017 at 10AM. Please note this meeting date has been moved from the normal 4th Sat. meeting because of the holidays. This will be an open forge meeting, with discussion of 2018 meetings.
