Filet knife/ first knife ever

Featured Replies

First knife I ever made. Did it early in the summer, nor perfect but any tips would be great, doesn't have the handle on in this picture but I don't have any others and I gave it away to a friend

No critique of the blade, but the next time you take a photo like this, make sure you've got a good contrast with the background. The color and tint of your knife is showing up very similarly to your kitchen floor, and even holding the blade over the dark mat in the upper left would have been better.

It is made out of some welding stock from Menards. I gave it to the owner of a fishing lodge I have been going to since I was around 8 years old so I haven't had the chance to ask him. And i'll make sure future pictures are better.

"weldable steel" from a Big Box Store==low carbon; *not* a good choice for a blade!  A section of large bandsaw blade from a sawmill---the foot wide ones; generally make good fillet knives.
