Brian t
I am building a forge out of a old compressor tank . 24"long x13" diameter. I am using 1 inch thick ceramic blanket refractory . My question is how thick do I need to make refractory? I was thinking 3 inches but would just like feedback. Thank you for your knowledge
ThomasPowers
Why so long? How many burners? How do you plan to use it? Hard to offer good advice without the details.
WoodnMetalGuy
So you are thinking 3 layers of the 1" thick blanket? That's what I will be using in my 14" diameter shell. I remember that's what Ron Reill had recommended on one of his pages. The bottom will have 2 layers, topped by the 1" kiln shelf. -- Dave
ThomasPowers
Since you will be doing mainly 10" wide scrolls they won't fit inside with 3" ; since you want to do knives it will be fine---DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING. IF YOU DON'T TELL US THE ANSWERS ARE GIGO!
