November 19, 20169 yr A six-part documentary from 1986 of a team of smiths under the direction of Francis Whitaker, forging an ornamental gate in the style of Samuel Yellin. Part 1 of 6 Part 2 of 6 Part 3 of 6 Part 4 of 6 Part 5 of 6 Part 6 of 6 (N.B.: I've compiled the links here, but I'll be linking to this page on the "Collection of YouTube links" page.)
November 19, 20169 yr Thanks for the links. It's good to be able to put a face and voice to some of the names I've grown to know online and I've actually met a couple of them. Thanks again. Frosty The Lucky.
November 20, 20169 yr Author FW (and Max Segal?) had led a team in making another Yellin-style gate a few years previously, in the lead-up to a major exhibit in Philadelphia of Yellin's work in the early '80s. (Fred was part of that project, too.) I'm trying to find photos of that gate to link here. One of the neat details was a pair of chiseled faces: one was a charming portrait of FW, and the other was the Devil (commemorating Yellin's nickname).
