Hey I live in southern California and it's like a tinder box here and I was wondering what knowledge y'all have about coke sparks in particular as in safe distances from grass , trees , brush ect.. I'm getting set up in between two shipping containers  there is a composite roof about 5 feet above my forge. First pic I have a piece of steel between the forge and the wall.w where the black barrel is in the second pic is where my forge is set up at. Any knowledge would be awesome . As allways thanks for the help.

You're in a steel structure on mineral soil, that's fire safe enough unless you do something really bone headed. You'll want to put a spark arrester on the stack if for no other reason than to keep the fire marshal happy. Keep leaves and such cleaned off the roof and away from the stack.

Coal and coke don't normally spark much if at all. You want to keep the fire under the coal not flaming up fiercely like in some videos. Charcoal is a different matter, it can really spark especially if you over do the air blast.

You might not want to do any hot work if the Santa Anas are blowing they could even blow a tumble weed right onto your stack or heck an oak tree. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, I've seen airborne trees.

There is no stack and mostly I'm worried about the composite roof and wall. Here are some pics. Thanks for the help
