I Forge Iron

Recommended Posts

The long section is way too long for most general forging---(a sword forge needs a hot spot of around 6" long for instance) adding a lot of fill in is expensive or heavy or both.  The short section is too big around for most forges.  Get off the net and go visit some smiths and see what actually works; stop by my place I have both coal and propane forges at both my locations!

So lets start with what you want to use it for:  ?

What skills/tools do you have or have access too: ?  (If you can't weld suggesting you use a design that takes lots of welding is not much help).

What materials do you have access too/can scrounge: ?

Then we can discuss what would be a good way for you to build a forge.
