Daswulf Posted January 14, 2016 Share Posted January 14, 2016 A little searching on this site will give you a ton of ideas on what you can use for an anvil other then the common London pattern anvil to start out on untill you can find what you "want". don't waste time you could spend learning the trade in looking for the Common looking anvil. there are many things that could serve the purpose. This is actually a VERY common statement. think outside the box and eventually you will find a London pattern anvil if that's what you want. Tate Estes Posted January 14, 2016 Author Share Posted January 14, 2016 I have a piece of railroad track i got from Steve Williamson when i went to take some blacksmith lessons and it has worked for me for a little while and i am trying to find a good anvil. Frosty Posted January 14, 2016 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Tate: If you put your general location in the header you might be surprised how many of the IFI gang live within visiting distance and I'll bet some have extra anvils or know where one is. If you beat hot iron / steel on it it's an anvil. Period. The London pattern anvil is a pretty recent pattern and certainly not the only one around. some of the finest work in the world is done on a plain steel block. Frosty The Lucky.
