Kekron
Hey guys. I recently completed my first propane forge build and wanted to share with you some pictures and videos. http://imgur.com/a/8VSeH Went with a standard propane tank (US). Chopped a few holes here and there and lined it with 2" worth of kaowool which was then covered by a few coats of ITC-100. Hard fire brick for the floor. Chamber volume 6" x 10" ~ 280 cu in. Burner: 1" Tee burner with a custom machined jet assembly. I was able to dick around using it, heating up stock and what not, but I noticed I was only getting a good red to orange heat on the stock. This was the first fire and, if you read my post about the burner, I probably need to tune and tweek this a little to get more efficiency. Then again, I could have just been impatient and not leaving the stock in there long enough. With that said though, the burner did operate much better once installed into the forge. This is referring to my previous post with questions regarding the burner and how it sounded.I like how it came out, especially for this being my first run at it. Over the next few weeks I hope to adjust things here and there to improve it. Hurray prototyping! C&C welcome!
Frosty
You'll get better heat if you close the opening up some. The way it's aimed directly at the far wall causes some of the flame to blow straight out the door. If you angle the burner so the flame is more tangential to the top of the chamber it will heat the chamber more evenly and not direct so much flame out the door.If you shoot a couple stills from the side of the door in dim light so I can get a look at the dragon's breath I might be able to give you some tips on tuning.A 1" burner is well tunes is going to melt the refractory out of that small a forge. Seriously a 3/4" is more burner than you really need for 280cu/in though it's not out of line. And yeah, let it warm up for a couple minutes THEN stick some stock in it, that puppy should ROCK.Frosty The Lucky.
