February 10, 201511 yr Hello everyone, I haven't even lurked on this site and just joined tonight. I am an avid woodworker, making everything from furniture to art pieces to musical instruments. I am currently "making" knives by buying blades and adding a handle, but I can't call myself a knife maker until I forge my own blades. I have built a couple custom motorcycles, and am working on a '61 Ford Unibody now. I am a facilities director for a prestigious girl's school for my career, but find my fulfillment in my hobbies. I am looking forward to learning new things from all of you and developing another hobby I can create art with.
February 10, 201511 yr Welcome aboard, glad to have you. You are sooo going to fit in here. You my friend are a natural born maker of things. Wood workers and finish carpenters make up a large demographic of blacksmiths. Seems they just can't find or afford to have THAT special plane knife or chisel made so . . . naturally enough decide to hammer it out themselves. Next thing you know your wood working tools are hiding the round toits under a layer of dust. There's a fire calling. I sure hope you like puns and snappy reparte. <grin> Frosty The Lucky.
February 14, 201511 yr Check out the New York State Designer Blacksmiths, I am a member, and visit when I can. They will further your efforts far faster than you can do on your own. You won't regret it. A finer bunch of folks would be hard to find.
