the branch
Hello there! A friend just bought an anvil and got one for free. And he is interessted in knowing some more info about them. I guess the first one is north german maybe? Its 120 kg and from 1912. The other one is... unknown. It has a weird construction. Straight on one side, and pretty deformed, but has a usable rebound and ring to it. Does anyone recognize what this anvil might be spesific to? And am I right that the first might be german? -Thank you for watching! -Jens
njanvilman
The "second" unknown anvil looks to be a very old design. I bet it is pre-1700 vintage, maybe even several hundred years older. It is definitely a nice collectable piece.
David Einhorn
I agree, definitely a piece of history that deserves to be preserved. One of your friend's options is to sell it to a collector for enough money to acquire a larger newer anvil, or other useful equipment. fordmustangbrad
That second anvil is an oddball! Looks vey old......I found one in a man's shop once, was using as doorstop. Bought it for $15.00. Wish I knew more about it. Hopefully someone knows more about yours.
the branch
Thank you for the response. He was happy to hear that. I do wonder tough if the horn is a bit to beefy for a 1700?
fordmustangbrad
This anvil is shaped much like your friend's anvil and is dated 1533....'>
