Pablo A. Posted November 15, 2013 Share Posted November 15, 2013 I recently acquired this tool. Someone suggested it might be a lap anvil. It's possible, but one would need some pretty strong thighs to hold it for any extended length of time. It doesn't look like any of the lap anvils I've seen before. BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted November 15, 2013 Share Posted November 15, 2013 I am going to say it is just a weight that was used to hold something flat while drying, gluing, etc. I say this because there does not appear to be any hammering on the back. Used for making 24k gold sheet metal into foil for gilding manuscripts, etc. between two squares of lambskin. And you thought your day job was tedious.
