August 29, 200718 yr I walked the tracks got a bucket of railroad spikes and a bean can forge well paint can forge. I can see I'm going to need to ether go to mepps or work thinner stock. The spikes don't seem to be heating thou. Probably going to some smaller stock and make tongs channel locks suck. Templar St Clair CO. MI PS All these options and no spell check or am i just missing it?

August 29, 200718 yr Look at the Lessons in Metalworking > Blacksmithing. They provide a wealth of information on getting started. Find out what fuel is available to you and then build a forge to use that fuel. If you have questions, post them in the forum and we will try to get you answers.
August 29, 200718 yr Author I am using a 16oz propane I am going to try mepps and smaller stock. Working on a true burner but i have no experience with propane and burners. Thanks to everyone in chat last night.
August 29, 200718 yr yea i'm int he same boat until i finish the Reil style burner.... I'm using Mapp gas.....it will get small stock a good color of red....but larger stock isn't gonna happen..... welcome again and keep us posted on your progress
August 29, 200718 yr Author well things are going well still yesterday ended up getting about 10 feet of kaowool half inch for free. Couldn't find a local supplier except bulk but the one guy told me he had some off a old roll. I went down the boss man was gone so the worker game me about half of what was piled up in the corner for free. Thinking I should have took it all. He said they where just going to throw it away. Maybe ill stop back in next week. Then today went to a small aco and they had old metal stock they had never repriced. 3x3 foot 9/32, 3 foot 1/4 and 3 foot 1/2x1/8 all for 9.50$
