Ragnas
Well I have been making some mail for a while now, but tonight I just coiled ~950 rings just have to cut them! '> and here is what I already have started '> the first bit is made from aluminium 16 gauge, the second bit is made from steel 14 gauge, third bit from copper 14g, and the last is a small section my friend started making (I was teaching him). I have a lot of steel wire available to me so I am going to continue to make either a skirt or vest, out of it. Down the line I plan to make a full set of armor and would rather not have to make another sectioned vest unless I have to! any ways leave a comment tell me what you guys think so far! Maillemaker
In my experience, making long coils is more efficient than making short ones; you end up wasting less wire. Also, it looks like you're using vise grip pliers to make your coils. Another way to wrap them is to drill a small hole through your rod, insert the wire and twist. If you're looking for the IFI of maille making sites, check out www.mailleartisans.org Also look up www.theringlord.com and cgmaille.com for some other resources. Happy weaving! Nobody Special
Flattening and rivetting the rings makes a stronger maille, and looks cool. Tedious, but fun. Good luck!
ThomasPowers
riveted is the way 99+% of european medieval and renaissance mail was made too.
vasiliyi
I have actually made a complete shirt a couple years back. I liked it, but I'm actually starting a new one. This time I will use ungalvanized steel and rivet the rings. I'll post back with progress.
